Muay Thai
The Art of Eight Limbs
Muay Thai, often referred to as “Thai boxing,” is a combat sport developed in Thailand. The art includes punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and clinching (grappling in the standing position). We provide classes for both beginners and advanced students. Classes generally begin with a 5 to 10 minute warm up that includes jump roping followed by shadowboxing. The rest of the time is then focused on techniques, tactics, and concepts, that help students enhance their understanding of the art and hone their skills for sparring and competition should they choose to compete.
Jiu Jitsu
The Gental Art
Jiu Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that focuses on control that leads to submission. Students will learn a variety of techniques and tactics, such as executing and defending takedowns from the standing position as well as moving through pinning techniques that result in submissions (joint locks and strangleholds). Emphasis is placed on live situations and sparring so that students can apply the concepts they learn in a competitive setting. Instructors ensure that all students are practicing in a safe and controlled manner in order to prevent any injuries on the mats.
Boxing
The Sweet Science
“The Sweet Science” focuses on attacking with and defending punches. Classes beginning with 5 to 10 minutes of jump roping followed by shadowboxing. The rest of the classes typically include mitt work to help students develop good technique, footwork, timing, and hand-eye coordination. Instructors strongly emphasize boxing fundamentals so that students can take the techniques and concepts learned in this class and apply it to other combat sports such as Muay Thai and mixed martial arts.
Strike Fit
Strength & Cardiovascular Training
Strike Fit is a strength and conditioning series developed by The Resistance. Students will go through high intensity interval training (HIIT) exercises that include battle ropes, kettlebells, sprints, sled work, core exercises, and much more. Days and times for these classes are broken up between Strike Fit, Strike Endurance, and Strength Fit to emphasize different aspects of fitness, whether it be strength, endurance, or cardio.
Kids MMA
Building Confidence and Discipline
Our kids program teaches students both striking and grappling. Classes are structured with warm ups, technique, live situations, and games. Coaches are experienced in teaching kids effective skills while emphasizing safety, fun, and teamwork. Students who seek to compete in either striking or grappling (with parent’s consent) may speak with coaches for information and competition planning.
